Conophytum bolusiae ssp. primavernum ARM 1317 (Uitspanpoort)

With me, this species lives up to its name (first in spring) and flowers on and off from February through to May in the UK, depending on the weather. It is known to grow on just one quartz hill but other hills in the vicinity are difficult to access. There is a little variation in the plants and the intensity of the purple colouration can be lighter than in the plant shown. It probably should not be associated with C. bolusiae; an early-flowering form of C. jucundum might better reflect its relationships.
