Conophytum burgeri (Aggenys)

One of the most unique of all conos. Body colours vary from green to rich ruby and it is very slow to clump up; four or five heads being the maximum normally seen in cultivation. Flowers do not open until mid afternoon. It occurs in just one quartz-strewn valley in Bushmanland that used to be the property of the Burger family (hence the name) but is now owned by the Black Mountain mine company who have protected it over the years. I have been told of a cono collection in China that just contains Conophytum burgeri.
