Conophytum comptonii TS 499 (Vanrhynspas)

I used to think that this was a fairly easy species to grow, but now it is providing some difficulties for some unknown reason. The plant shown is a small-headed form from one of the best-known colonies. However there are a number of other known colonies to the south and south-east which are even nicer in their markings, particularly the larger-headed form from the farm Papkuilsfontein.
