Conophytum lithopsoides ssp. koubergense (Kouberg)

This is restricted to just one hill, Kouberg, that lies in Bushmanland to the south of the distribution area of the typical subspecies. The flattened brown bodies are rather distinctive as are the flowers in which the centres are occluded by the staminodes, such that the stamens and stigmas are not visible in the tube. It might well deserve to be returned to full species status on the basis of these flowers,  with ordinary C. lithopsoides becoming a subspecies of C. pellucidum.
