Conophytum minimum RR714 (Klipfontein)

Widespread in the north-west part of the Little Karoo and nearby areas. It is very variable and many names such as C. scitulum and C. labyrintheum have been applied in the past to various ecotypes. Markings can be quite minimal or in some cases very pronounced such as in the old species C. wittebergense which is shown above. Growers tend to have indulged in unnatural selection and the best-marked forms are highly prized. Chris Rodgerson has developed a strain from RR714 with the cultivar name 'Blackout' in which the black markings predominate
