Conophytum obscurum ssp. sponsaliorum SH1437 (Skimmelberg)

C. obscurum itself is very widespread in the southern Richtersveld and tend to grow low down on the hills. Higher on some hills such as Skimmelberg and Harrasberg there occurs a smaller and slower growing form that often colours brown in good light; this is subspecies sponsaliorum. Note the white centre to the flower and the red flower tubes and filaments that are typical of obscurum.
